4 More Ways to Make Extra Cash this Week

Home - Budgeting - 4 More Ways to Make Extra Cash this Week

Summer is quickly winding down which means the Back to School season is fast approaching! New clothes, school supplies, and class pictures are more than likely expenses that didn’t get factored into the budget, but not to worry! Here are four more ways you can save or make extra cash this week to help offset those “educational necessities.”

1.Find a used bookstore. If your kids have required reading or have to purchase their own textbooks – or even if you’re a book lover yourself — there’s no need to pay full price when used books read just the same. Some areas also offer book swaps, and online is an amazing resource for finding inexpensive textbooks. The library is another go-to for finding those required reading materials, especially since your tax dollars have already paid for the books.

2. Meet your neighbors. Riding with a neighbor or taking public transportation to work (or to school once it’s back in session) is another way to save a few extra dollars this week. You won’t have to buy gas as often. Costly oil changes can be pushed out a few extra weeks or even months. And you might end up riding in the car with the new best friend you might not have met otherwise.

3. Call your service providers. Cell phone, utilities, insurance, and even credit card companies usually have discounts or offers that aren’t public knowledge but are available if you if you ask. It may take a few “can I speak to someone who can” conversations, but don’t give up! They’re there to serve you, and if they don’t meet your standards you’re free to take your business elsewhere.

4. Cut the cord – the cable cord. Go ahead. I dare you. Try life without cable, DirecTV or Netflix for a month and see how much money you save…and how much you gain by spending more time with your family. Surprise yourself by getting creative with alternative entertainment ideas. Bring back game nights. (Think Monopoly or Go Fish.) Make dinner together. Take family walks after dinner. Or just spend some time getting to know better the other people who live in the same house with you through…gasp…in-person conversations!

There will never be the “perfect” time to start something new or to start saving money, so be like Nike and Just Do It now. Why wait until a crisis hits or your kids are out of the house to appreciate what you already have? Today is the new tomorrow. Enjoy it wisely.

And if you need support or more fresh financial ideas, we’re always here for you!
