3 Ways to Rethink Retirement

Rethinking RetirementRethinking-Retirement

Times have changed, and retirement isn’t what it used to be. People used to be able to retire at 65 and have enough saved up, earned up and planned up to be comfortable in their “golden years.” The way things are now, though, the start of those golden years keeps getting pushed back further and further and the amount people have to live on keeps getting smaller and smaller.

But what happens when people planning on retiring after 65 are forced to retire well before then due to medical reasons, downsizing of companies or family issues? With that extra money they were planning on accruing no longer an option, life could start feeling a whole lot more tarnished than golden.

It’s never too late to start taking new steps toward your financial freedom, especially for those years scheduled to be enjoyed not working. By starting now, you’ll not only have peace of mind during any unplanned situations, you’ll also be in a much better position when things actually go according to plan.

1. Stay Healthy. This almost needs no explanation because obviously the healthier you are, the more life you’ll be able to enjoy regardless of whether or not you’re working. You’ll also be able to work longer if you want and choose to, and you’ll without questions be more effective at everything you do regardless if it’s work, play or taking care of a loved one.

2. Keep Learning. The more you feed your mind with up-to-date job-related skills – or even if you start making strides to become your own boss – the more irreplaceable you’ll be to your current boss and to your future one…you!

3. Be Prepared. “Failing to plan is planning to fail,” so prepare for the possible by putting a little more into savings and/or your retirement every month. Keep the amount you tuck away manageable so as to not tarnish the current years but yet be able spend the post-working years they way you’ve earned them – golden!
